Consider adopting an adult cat

Our dogs love to sleep on Kuranda beds, but we do not have enough for each kennel. If you would like to donate a bed for another shelter dog at discounted price, please click here. |
Who We Are
The City of Weatherford-Parker County Animal Shelter is a joint venture between the City of Weatherford and Parker County. Because we take every animal that is brought to the shelter, our space fills up quickly. We take in an average of over 100 animals each week. We have 78 dog kennels, a cat room with several kitty condos, and additional cages for cats being evaluated prior to being placed for adoption. We update Petfinder each week with pictures of all the available pets, but since they come in daily, there are usually more pets than what you will see here. You are welcome to call or visit us to see all of the adoptable animals.
Mobile Adoption Events
Parker Paws, a volunteer group for the shelter, was at the new Chase Bank in Weatherford on November 22 for their Grand Opening. Three dogs were adopted, including one who had been fostered by one of our volunteers.

This playful lab was adopted Saturday.
The adoption events are conducted by volunteers, their help is invaluable. Please see below at Volunteering and Donations if you would like to join us. Thank you!
Upcoming Mobile Adoption Events

We'll have the trailer with adoptable pets at Petsmart in Weatherford on December 20, from 10am - 2pm (weather permitting).
Building Improvement Project
In 2004 two local business men generously offered to match up to $40,000 if the Weatherford/Parker County Animal Shelter could raise $40,000 to start off a much needed building improvement project. Through generous community support the shelter met their $40,000 goal in August of 2005. To date the shelter has raised over $350,000.
Building plans include the remodel/reconstruction of two of the older kennels, erecting a new kennel and office, and the remodel of the current office to become a spay/neuter clinic. The construction for this project is currently underway and is scheduled to be completed in 2008.

*UPDATE* One new building is now completed, you're welcome to come see it. The air conditioned building has 18 large dog kennels with indoor and outdoor runs, a separate room for cats, and a utility room with a grooming table. Construction is beginning on the second new building that will have 24 kennels, and another new building for an office and spay/neuter facility. Estimated completion is October 2008. These buildings are all being built thanks to generous supporters of the shelter, no tax money is being used.
Parker Paws raised $800 at the Peach Festival on July 12, 2008 and this will go towards the purchase of Kuranda beds for the new kennels. We've raised the rest through donations from generous people that want to help. Thank you to all our supporters!
You must be 18 years of age or older to adopt an animal. Adoption fees are only $85.00 for a female dog, $75.00 for a male dog, and $55.00 for each cat. The fee includes spay or neuter of the animal; plus rabies, parvo, and distemper vaccinations, as well as some additional feline vaccinations. It also includes micro-chipping. What a GREAT deal for a new best friend!!
